Shortwave Listening Tips: Listen to Asia and Australia in the morning and listen to Europe at night. Renegade, Simply the most convenient printed frequency list worldwide! Tuning into HAM radio traffic or commercial radio station broadcasts, from thousands of miles away, is fun and can be really exciting especially during emergencies. Most short-wave radio stations are on a 5 kHz raster meaning that their frequency in kHz will either end with a '5' or a '0' (eg 15205 or 6110 kHz). Most countries broadcast at least an hour of English-language broadcasts every day, some do a lot more. Hey EveryoneI did a search for "Shortwave Band Chart" and there are a few out there. However, there are still many government shortwave broadcasts out there. Even well-known financial expert Dave Ramsey shares his investment advice, with a shortwave re-broadcast of his syndicated AM radio show, on 9.930 MHz weekdays from 1:00PM-4:00PM CST. It is best to own a receiver that has SSB (single side band) tuning as well. Receiving SSB needs specialist equipment but even relatively low cost receivers will often do the job. Since this was a beginners article, I did not get into shortwave band meter segments, propagation, sun spot cycles, RTTY/radio teletype, packet radio, or other related topics as I wanted to keep it basic and increase your interest so you will get a shortwave for your prepper plans. These are some of the popular frequencies used by International broadcasters: 3.9 - 4 MHz ("75 meters") 4.75 - 5 MHz ("60 meters") 5.7 - 6.3 MHz ("49 meters") 6.9 - 7.6 MHz ("41 meters") ARTCC. Restricted to 7300-7400 kHz in the Americas. Although a $15-$20 pocket-sized analog shortwave radio is a great addition to any bug-out pack, I strongly recommend a compact digital shortwave radio for your main radio as these digitally tune and lock on to shortwave frequencies.
