The Marchwood Military Railway began life in 1939 with the spur from Marchwood Junction to Cracknore Hard magazine. A device, believed to have been concealed inside a postal van, detonated inside Palace Barracks in Holywood, Co Down. A British garrison has been in place in the Six Counties since the enforced partition of the island in 1921. This agreement was dependant on the current primary school site, or proceeds from its sale, being passed to OFMDFM.
