If the metal is up to "standard" the form of the sword and especially the handguards should make them a match for any but most massive historical blade. Just cut off the pleather and made my own grip. After reading the reviews, I carefully unwrapped the faux leather handle, covered the exposed grip with good strong glue, and re wrapped the handle. I don't understand the ignorance of buyers who think this sword is to have modern characteristics.I don't care how many swords you have bought in the past, if you want moderrn buy modern.
